December

Cut-Your-Own Christmas Tree Sale. Sat, Dec 1, 10 am – 2 pm. An annual tradition, we'll provide the tools you need to select and cut your own Christmas tree from our fields. *Location: Land's Sake's OFFICE location, 27 Crescent St. in Weston, MA. To find the office, enter "25 Crescent St" into your GPS, then look for Land's Sake's sign on the mailbox for 27 Crescent St. Follow a long driveway through the woods to a parking lot, and we will be located in the farmhouse. If you are navigating the old-fashioned way, please know that Crescent St is off of Rt. 20/Boston Post Road, on the east side of Weston. 

Wreath Making with A Natural Arrangement. Sat, Dec 1, 10 am - 12 pm. Professional florists Trish Scozzafava and Jessica Pohl from A Natural Arrangement invite you to join them to learn how to make gorgeous seasonal wreaths! Bring your friends and create, chat and nibble the day away. Attendees will create and take home a holiday wreath. Light food and beverages will be provided. January

Forest Walks at the Case Estates. Saturday January 5, 2019 at 10:00AM. Land's Sake is managing the forest on a portion of the Municipal Purposes land at the Case Estates. If you're interested in learning more, join us for a Forest Walk. We will plan to meet in the parking lot by the Case Barn at 133 Wellesley Street, but it may be easiest to park on Alphabet Lane and walk over. 

February

Tapping Out Volunteer Day. 2019 date will be announced in January. An annual New England tradition: help us install taps and buckets on Weston's maple trees! Location: 27 Crescent St, Weston (Land's Sake's OFFICE location. To get here via GPS, type in "25 Crescent St." That will bring you to Crescent St, and then look for a mailbox labelled "27" and a small "Land's Sake" sign above it. Go down the LONG driveway by that mailbox, which brings you to a small tan house. That's the Land's Sake Office.  To get here via old-fashioned navigation: Crescent St is off of Rt 20/Boston Post Road on the east side of Weston).

Tu B'shvat & the Local Trees. Sunday, February 10, 2019. Join us for this fun, educational annual event for all ages! Tu B’shvat is traditionally a time to assess our field and fruit trees. Led by the Land’s Sake and Ganei Beantown educators, we’ll explore the sugaring process, from tree-tapping and wood splitting to boiling and bottling. Cost $10 per person non-member. Free for 2019 Land’s Sake Members. Registration link will be posted soon. Location: The Bill McElwain Sugar House at Weston Middle School (456 Wellesley St, Weston MA)

Coffee for a Cause. $5 from every cup of batch brewed Allegro Coffee benefits Land’s Sake! Locations: Whole Foods Market in Wellesley, Framingham, Newton, and Newtonville.

Shop at Whole Foods, Donate to Land's Sake! Ongoing through the month of January. We are excited to work with Whole Foods Market this January! Throughout the month, you will be able to make a donation to Land's Sake at the registers of the following stores: Framingham, Sudbury, Wellesley, Newton, Newtonville, and Dedham.

Annual Meeting at the Weston Public Library.  Open to the public: please join us to celebrate Land's Sake. We will have a brief business meeting, including a report from our Executive Director Pam Hess, the election of new board members and the slate of officers.  You'll also enjoy refreshments and a talk by Charlotte Trim. Charlotte Trim is an organic beekeeper who has been focused on bee health for the past 12 years.  As an organic orchardist and soil consultant, Charlotte is also mindful of the bee's role as pollinator and their impact on the immediate environment. Originally from Europe, Charlotte currently lives in Lincoln MA.

Medicinal Plant Walk. Join Land's Sake Education Manager and Herbalist Anna Cohen for a walk of the local and cultivated medicinal plants at Land's Sake! There is an amazing variety of natural medicine growing all around us. This plant walk will feature a variety of medicinal plants in season, both cultivated and wild. Expect to meet different plants each season.  Free for eligible 2018 Land’s Sake Members.

Folk Roots Singing Workshop. Join Lorraine Fitzmaurice to explore the folk traditions of the British Isles and Appalachia in a pastoral setting! Many songs were created to be sung while working on the farm, or feature herbs, animals (especially birds), and the turning of the seasons as themes.

Songs for Seedlings. Song and dance hour for families with young children. Come sing (and dance to!) songs about seeds, plants, farms, and animals. Some you may already know, some will be brand new! Take what you learn home with you in a little booklet and start growing your own family singing tradition.

Mindfulness in Nature. Reduce stress and connect to nature through gentle guided and silent meditation in a quiet corner of the farm. Sip herbal tea, listen to the beat of the drum and the sounds of the meadow, and let the stress of your week slip away.  Free for eligible 2018 Land's Sake Members.

Yoga on the Farm Bring your mat and connect with nature as we move through an invigorating one hour yoga class on the farm. Yoga Teacher Steffany Doolittle will guide you through a unique variation of vinyasa flow yoga, linking breath and movement, leaving you feeling energized and peaceful. Free for eligible 2018 Land's Sake Members.

Plein Air Painting 'Drop-In.' Weston landscape artist Larry Grob will introduce you to plein air and then circulate, providing individual coaching and critique. No prior experience is necessary, but seasoned artists are welcomed as well. Bring you own materials and supplies…from pencils to oils. No advance registration or payment is required…just drop in. Please, however, check the Land's Sake website (here) for weather related cancellations. $20 payable to Larry Grob at drop-in.

Eat Your Medicine: Spring Wild Edibles. Join Land's Sake Education Manager and Herbalist Anna Booth Cohen to learn about our local, wild "superfoods!" Participants will learn about the nutritious and medicinal wild plants that grow abundantly in spring. This experiential, hands-on program will include information and practice in harvesting and plant ID, traditional medicinal use, and preparation for several local medicinal plants.

Farmstand Opening Celebration. The annual opening of our Farmstand, complete with vendor tastings, live music, and family friendly activities. We'll also have a volunteer opportunity for those who want to help us mulch our flower garden.

Archery on the Farm. On the Mark Archery is excited to partner with Land’s Sake Farm to offer a special night of shooting that will teach you the fundamentals of traditional recurve archery while enjoying the outdoors. Advance registration is required. Cost: $35. Open to Adults and youth age 10+.

Fairies, Gnomes, and Elves Festival. Celebrate the magic of summer at Land's Sake's Fairies, Gnomes, and Elves Festival! We will have stations set up around the farm that offer fun, creative activities for children to enjoy.

Summer Solstice Dinner. Our summer farm-to-table dinner, enjoyed right on the farm! We'll enjoy a delicious meal prepared by Chef Joshua Smith of Moody's and The Backroom.  Tickets will go on sale in late May or early June.

Plein Air Pastel Painting Workshop. Learn how to capture the farm’s beauty with pastels. All are welcome as local landscape artist Larry Grob helps you explore the potential of this wonderful medium, working on various scenes around Land’s Sake. Larry will demo, share tips on subject selection, composition, and technique…and provide coaching as you work on your own painting. *If it's rainy June 23, the workshop will be postponed to June 30.

Our Internal Universe and the Balanced Vedic Lifestyle Fri, July 13, 11 am - 12 pm. Thousands of years before modern medicine provided scientific evidence for the mind-body connection, the sages of India developed Ayurveda, which continues to be one of the world’s most sophisticated and powerful mind-body health systems. Weston resident Anjana Bhargava, an Ayurvedic Wellness Counselor will lead a discussion where you will learn about the body types, food combination, herbs/spices and how you can incorporate it in your life to live a healthy life. You can take home some sample spices/herbs and recipes home and try some healthy herbal teas etc. Location: Land's Sake's OFFICE location, 27 Crescent St. in Weston, MA. Harvest Hustle 5k and Fun Run. Sun, Sept. 16, 9:30 am Fun Run and 10:00 am 5k. Whether you're a serious runner or are just looking to get some exercise and enjoy running around the farm, please join us! The Fun Run for kids is 1/2 a mile.  The cost is $10/kid for the Fun Run; 5k is $25 if you register in advance or $30 for the day of. Registration starts at 9 am the day of the race. Parking will be available at the Weston Recreation Department, across the street from Land's Sake. Register here.

Ayurveda's approach to Agni - "The Digestive Fire." Wednesday, Oct 17, 10 am - 12 noon. Agni is a vedic term meaning burning, transforming or perceiving. Our health largely depends on how well we are able to digest, absorb and assimilate nutrients from our food. Agni (digestive enzymes) is the internal digestive fire that transforms all food as well as sensations coming into the body. Food conversion to energy requires an essential biochemical reaction. We can suffer from several health issues like stomachache, diarrhea, or constipation etc. if our digestive fire is not working right. Join this class to learn about your digestive fire- what can you do to enhance it to live a healthy lifestyle. Ayurveda Life Style: Seasonal Routine for Fall Season. Wednesday, October 31, 10 am - 12 noon. Ayurveda, an ancient healing system is based on deep understanding of eternal truths about human body, mind and spirit. We are born with our own particular balance of five elements, which creates our body constitution. We maintain our health and wellbeing when these five elements remain in balance. Ayurvedic seasonal routines and dietary guidelines play an important role in preventative health. By following simple guidelines, you can help mitigate the toxins that accumulate due to seasonal changes. Come and learn how you can detox your system with simple daily routine. Our popular dinner series is back to brighten your evenings with good friends and great food!We are delighted to welcome Chef Sam Hunt of Root to our dinner next month. Root is an organization that offers a rigorous 12-week workforce training program that uses food preparation and service as its vehicle for teaching career and life skills.
