Land's Sake Farm workshops are offered at the farm periodically throughout the year. From flower arranging to making pasta, our workshops incorporate elements of the farm into each session. Workshops are designed for people over the age of 16, but some include the option to bring younger children. See below for all of our options.

FLOWER WORKSHOPS

Make the most of your bouquets and preserve the beauty of local flowers with your own dried flower arrangements and pressed flowers! During this workshop we will learn tricks and techniques for making quality dried bouquets, including which flowers are best for drying, and put them to work. We will explore different flower pressing methods and what to do with them after they're pressed. Participants will create a simple but stunning dried flower wall-hanging as well as a pressed flower collage.
In this workshop we will explore the world of dried flowers, creating wreaths that can be used as crowns, centerpieces or wall hangings. We will discuss different wreath making methods, and different ways to preserve and work with three-dimensional dried flowers.
In this workshop, we will explore different flower pressing methods: using books, flower presses, and microwaves, as well as what to do with the flowers after they're pressed and how to best preserve them. Participants will create pressed flower candle holders and a variety of pressed flower cards.
FARM INGREDIENTS WORKSHOPS
Pesto is an easy way to celebrate (and preserve) the flavors of summer! But who says basil pesto is the best? We’ll explore basic pesto ingredients and experiment with substitutions, learning to make classic pesto as well as nut-free, dairy-free, and even basil-free versions. Everyone will get to take home a full jar! All materials are included with the price. *We will use tree nuts and dairy during this workshop.*
Carry the flavor and benefits of herbs into the winter months with delicious and medicinally potent dried tea mixes and infused vinegars. In this workshop we will explore various herbs, create and experiment with our own blends, make infusions to take home, and taste a variety of herbal products. All participants will leave with a bottle of infused vinegar with their choice of herbs, along with a selection of personally-blended tea bags.
Learn all about the science behind honey: from the community of insects who make it, to how to best store and use it in the kitchen! This workshop will include a discussion of beekeeping, a honey taste test, and communal creations of a few honey-centric recipes. Participants will take home a jar of infused honey at the end of the workshop.
Come try your hand at making your own salad dressings and marinades! In this workshop we will taste and pair herbs and natural sweeteners, as well as learn different salad dressing techniques. Participants will have the opportunity to design their own mixtures, to be tested with Land’s Sake lettuce and taken home to dress their table.
From dill spears to kimchi to pickled onions, we’ll learn about the powers of lacto-fermentation as well as brines for quick pickling and leave with some custom-made refrigerator pickles. We’ll taste different vegetables and herb combinations before setting off to make our own ideal concoction.
Learn to preserve and enjoy our bountiful tomato crops! In this workshop we’ll make fresh salsa and other tomato-based sauces, testing different herb combinations, tomato varieties, and additions.
This workshop will focus on making delicious, herby crackers using ingredients grown on the farm. We will make three different types of crackers, learning the science of each type and experimenting with farm-flavor combinations. *This workshop will use gluten and dairy products.*
Explore the fascinating world of eggs! This workshop will cover the basics of backyard birds, the differences between commonly eaten eggs, and we’ll explore creative and exciting ways to celebrate farm eggs by making a variety of communal recipes.
Ever wondered how to go from grass to cheese? We’ll discuss the process of raising dairy animals, the science of cheese making, and what to do with cheese! We will make a simple cheese together and experiment with different farm flavor combinations. (This can be combined easily with the crackers workshop to create cheese and crackers, or the pasta workshop to make ravioli.) *This workshop will use dairy products.*
Learn how to make your own pasta at home! During this workshop we will discuss the cultural history of different types of pasta, and work to make a simple (and delicious) pasta dough, adding in vegetables from the farm.
Maple Magic! In this program we will explore the magical process of making maple syrup, from tree to pancakes. The first part of the program will include an in-depth tour of Land’s Sake’s Bill McLaine Sugarhouse. The second part will focus on the finished product, by sampling different types of maple syrup and creating a few recipes. Please note, parts of this program will take place outside.
Save food for the winter! This workshop will focus on ways to keep up with the bounty of the harvest, combat food waste, and save fresh flavors for winter usage! We explore a number of options: storage, freezing, pickling, canning, and dehydration: learning best practices and suggested produce for each. Participants will be take home a jar of pickles and a bag of freezer vegetables.
FARM CRAFTS WORKSHOPS
Bring the hive to your table with beautiful candles and waxed-leaf centerpieces! In this workshop we’ll try our hand at various crafts that will keep color and light with us throughout the winter.
In this workshop we will practice two different felting methods: with water and with needles. We will use these methods to make felted flowers that can be used as gifts, tree ornaments, or centerpieces.
Learn how to find healing herbs and what to do with them! In this workshop we will learn how to identify herbs with medicinal properties, create oil infusions, and make our own salves and balms to take home.
GARDENING WORKSHOPS
Exercise your green thumbs and get your hands dirty! This workshop will focus on the early garden work of planning and sowing. After learning about how to plan a garden space, we will go over what seeds to start in the ground, what seeds to start inside, and what to know about both strategies!
Learn how to make the most of new seedlings! This workshop will focus on the dos and don’ts of transplanting into your garden: the best times and days to do it, best practices for adding fertilizer, and how to plan your garden space to the best effect!
