Farmstand Lunch (Ayurvedic Cooking: Khichadi – The Ultimate Healing Comfort Food)
Date & Time: March 10th, 11 to 1 pm.
Hungry? Come join us for a hands-on class in which we will explore, create, and eat Khichadi, a simple yet deeply nourishing dish that is revered in Ayurvedic tradition for its ability to cleanse, heal, and rejuvenate. In this hands-on class, you will learn how to make this wholesome, easy-to-digest meal using delicious, fresh farmstand vegetables!
In this class, you will discover how to prepare:
- Khichadi: A blend of mung dal (yellow lentils) and rice, simmered with ghee, warming spices, and fresh farmstand vegetables. Khichadi is known for its detoxifying properties, soothing the digestive system while providing essential nutrients and energy. Learn how to adjust the ingredients to suit your dosha and create a meal that’s both grounding and uplifting.
Key concepts we’ll explore:
- The healing qualities of mung dal and rice, and how they support your Agni (digestive fire) and detoxification.
- The importance of spices like cumin, coriander, turmeric, and asafoetida in enhancing digestion and balancing the three doshas (Vata, Pitta, and Kapha).
- How Khichadi can be used as a cleansing food, perfect for a gentle Ayurvedic detox or during times of imbalance.
- How to create a complete, balanced meal with the right combination of protein, carbohydrates, and fats, using ingredients that promote mental clarity and physical vitality.
Khichadi is also considered an ideal meal for anyone looking to strengthen their immunity, reduce inflammation, or reset their digestive system. Whether you’re new to Ayurvedic cooking or a seasoned practitioner, this class will provide you with all the tools to make Khichadi a staple in your kitchen.
